FAQSS - General
- Uh, you’ve got an extra S in there.
- Actually, we don’t. There are two S’s in there, but that’s because the whole thing stands for: “Frequently asked questions and statements.”
- Okay, so what is Naruto: Remix?
- Remix is a play by post Naruto rpg. It is the highest quality game out there, as well as the most sophisticated. Basically, Remix is a less complex game than most, and thus, more sophisticated. It is also very open, allowing everything outside of the most basic systems to be changed without much impact on the game. We’re streamlined, but far fewer limits than anyone else.
- Play by Post? What’s that?
- A play by post RPG is a roleplaying game that is based around an online bulletin board service. Essentially, a player creates a character by writing about them, and then writes out that character’s story. They are playing by writing in their post, hence the term “play by post.” They can also play with other members by taking turns posting (but being careful not to move the other person’s character around; that’s like moving someone’s checkers around while they are baking cookies or something)
- Will there be a lot of drama here?
- If you mean player vs. player drama, no, not really. Someone may snap at someone else, and another person may yell, but no, this isn’t a bitchfest game. If someone does decide to open their mouth and start a pissing contest, you can be sure someone it will be quelled and everyone will leave happy.
- Okay, well, actually, someone just said something really offensive to me.
- On the boards? By the nod of your head and the arcane hand guesture, I’m guessing you meant on the boards. Okay, here’s what you do: Go talk to that person and try to settle it with them in PM or IM. Hideake places all his ryou on the fact that it’s a simple misunderstanding (not kidding, if you can’t solve your dispute once you and the other person have talked in IM, he will pay you all the ryou he’s got. Some restrictions may apply. Offer void in some areas. See your local dealer for details.). If that doesn’t work, ask a staffer to talk to that person. If that staffer talks to the person and finds that said person is being stubborn then said staffer will talk to the rest of the staff. The staff will take action; you will see results.
- Pah. Anyways, can I be a staff member?
- The way it works is that the staff is always watching you to see who would make a great staff member. Here’s a little tip, though: don’t ask to be a staff member unless your primary reason for being one is to help the game along. Otherwise the hassle of the job is probably too great, kinda like being a spy. Sure, it sounds sexy, but it doesn’t get you chicks as much as you’d think.
- What do you mean by that?
- Well, see, the short version of being a staff member is that you’re… well, a member… that’s staff. What those five letters contain is about fifty more rules. That’s right: not being staff means you got fewer rules to follow. Staffers have to do all kinds of things, from judging your writing, to listening to people bitch about how they’re not being judged (never seen an rpg where someone doesn’t complain about not being judged in time), to making sure everything works, and all that stuff. On top of all that, they have to write and be active like any other member of the game. Most of them are in college as well, so add on 12-18 hours of college courses… and yeah, you can see why you might not want to be a staffer.
- But… aren’t the staff some exclusive club?
- Yes. Workaholics. The only reward they get for being a staff member is the satisfaction of getting to surprise you with story mode.
- So what’s going on in staff right now? Oh wait, I can’t ask that, can I?
- No, you can. In fact, feel free. Since this document isn’t exactly fluid, you’ll have to actually ask someone what’s currently going on. The only thing they’ll never ever tell you is about story mode, because that’s a surprise! It’s like asking what your birthday present is. Besides… there’s that whole “No spoilers” thing. You may only get part of the details, but at least you’ll get something. If the staff can tell you what they’re doing, it gives you insight to their ideas that they otherwise might not have. It’s the whole principle of editing. A writer can’t always spot his own mistakes as well as the reader can. Your input is valued, and as a player, you have every right to know what’s going on as anyone else.
- Who is Hiro?
- If you mean the member id 1 account, the physical person who typed those words is now using the name Rei. We here at Remix believe that no one should ever have the unstoppable account, and therefore access to it isn’t easy to get. If anyone attempts to delete the site, the Hiro account will be reactivated in order to stop that attempt, but other than that, nobody will touch that account.
- I’m from Senkai, and I’m curious… who owns this game? Kyuusai and Rei? The admins? Who?
- Every member of Remix owns a portion of the game. This doesn’t mean you can tell people what to do or anything, but you have a voice, and as a member, your input is both heard and valued. You must understand that a democracy does not work well, but neither does absolute control, like an owner account. The administrators and mods of Remix are here to ensure that the game runs smoothly, both for you and for them. They cannot “tell you what to do” except when trying to help the game run well (mainly by reminding you of the rules and asking you to abide by them; breaking the rules will get you punished, just as they will get punished if they break them). No one is above the law, and no one has absolute say. Everyone is an owner. Hooray!
- How much violence and sexual content may I include in my writing?
- As much as you want, but please put disclaimers on those things that push the limits. No one should have to read something and find a sex scene that they are uncomfortable with reading, just as no one should be unwittingly drawn into reading something which is more violent than Saving Private Ryan. If you’re writing something that’s as sexy and violent as the Spiderman or X-men movies, sure, no need for a disclaimer. Blood and such are normal within the Naruto world, so don’t worry about that. However, if you intend on going Hellsing, Hen, Gantz, or Hannibal on us, yeah, best to warn your readers.
- Hey, can we ________________?
- That’s a great suggestion! That’s a horrible suggestion! I’m… not really sure! Please post whatever it is you’re suggesting in the suggestions forum. Unless it’s like “can we require everyone to wear pink Strawberry Shortcake sunglasses and dance with stars,” then I doubt anyone will laugh at you.
FAQSS - Game
- I don’t know anything about Naruto. I don’t know how to play!
- ’sfine. As Hideake can attest, Kishimoto’s world can be crap at times (Okay, he’ll say he hates the Narutoverse and thinks Kishi made the most horrible bastard world ever, but still…), and you really only need to know the basics. If you want to know the basics, well, then just talk to someone about it. They’ll explain all the simple stuff to you, like what a Hokage is, what a village is (if you speak English, you should know this by now), the three types of jutsu (the Japanese word for technique), what the clans do, and how this world relates with the manga.
- Can I be an Uchiha/Hyuuga/some other clan?
- Well, please check the clan list. If it’s full, then no, sorry, you can’t. If it’s not full, then yeah, feel free to sign up as one. Whether you get in, however, is something that the judges will have to determine. Being sub-par won’t get you anywhere, but if you do a great job, then yeah, you’ll probably be allowed to join as one. One suggestion is that you try not being an arrogant prick if you want to be a Hyuuga, and you try not to be an orphan with a chip on his shoulder if you want to be an Uchiha. Our rule of thumb is to allow six active players
- What is an active player?
- An active player is someone who has written and posted roleplay material within the past thirty days. Inactive players have been gone for more than thirty days, but only because they can’t get back. Once they begin rping again, they become active players. If you have not signed up or have quit, you are a non-member. The term “players” is synonymous with “members,” and only those actively roleplaying have a voice. This means if you sign on to the forum once a month, but never write, or you post in general discussion without roleplaying, you are not an active member, and may be considered a non-member. It is likely that if you only post twelve roleplay posts in a year (once a month), you will not be considered an active member, even if you fit the technical description.
- What are some tips for joining?
- Try looking at the Encyclopedia Dramatica’s definition for anime characters. Don’t be like that. Try creating a character you can write, as well. Like… if you are a really good writer with perfect grammar and in school you’re straight-A and you’ve never failed a paper, then yeah, do whatever you feel comfortable with. However, if your grammar isn’t perfect and you’re not a genius, then don’t try creating a genius character. This isn’t to say those people with genius characters have perfect grammar, but at least they try. Attempt to make a normal character with some flaws and some talents. Don’t make her all awesome, and don’t make him all bad.
- Try to avoid making adult RPCs. Your character’s age should be, in accordance with the Narutoverse, between 13 and 18 years old. As you progress to Chuunin and Jounin, you can age your character.
- Try to avoid being Mary Sues. This means that your character can’t be a beautiful orphan with an evil twin sibling who everybody likes but has a strong temper. A Mary Sue character is usually a perfect person with one flaw (which typically is temper-related). Try being different, or maybe even off the wall. See people around you, with both their positives and their negatives, and work somewhere in between. I’m not saying you should be a Plain Jane, but try to make a believable, realistic character.
- Don’t use the names: Uzumaki, Kakashi, Naruto, Jiraiya, Gaara, Ino, and other manga/anime characters. Yes, you can have the first or last name of someone in another manga/anime (Kazuo), but you can’t have their family and person names (Kazuo Kiriyama). Don’t name your character “Michael Jackson.” Don’t call them “Shuuji of the White Wood” or something like that. No kid ever gets a name like that. That’s called a title, and you get it for being famous (or infamous). While we prefer Japanese names, as you see there are people named “Lance” and “Laurent.” While some people disagree with this, again, that’s your choice. Also note that Kishimoto uses weird names in the manga (Might Guy, often incorrectly translated as Maito Gai).
- Please do not say you are from America or Germany or anything either. Remain within the Naruto world, or the countries that we (or Kishimoto) have listed. If you want to say you were from Iwa, even though Iwa does not exist in our game, it did in our game’s history, so it’s fine to say you are from there.
- When do our characters age?
- Whenever you want really. Just try to age at some point and remember, not everyone can be a prodigy ANBU Captain before their balls drop like Itachi.
- How do I convert my character from Senkai Rairin?
- If you desire to transfer, you transfer your LP over and convert it to our formula. All your equipment, items, and jutsus will also convert into Coupons equivalent to that rank that can be used for purchase of anything that rank or below. All customs will also convert into coupons equal to the rank bought at SR. You will need to have all customs regraded, however, if you have earned and RP’d for the custom already, upon approval you will automatically have access to it. If you have not RP’d for it but had bought the customs materials, you will need to RP for the custom here.
- What is Ryou?
- Ryou is the standard of currency used in the Naruto world. You are also responsible for keeping track of your own account and recording purchases in the various market places whenever made.Every week on Sunday, you will also receive your weekly pay, which will be determined by your rank and job (if you have one). Ryou can also be accumulated through missions.
- I can’t speak Japanese! How can I come up with cool names like you guys?
- What the crap is an elemental affinity?
- An elemental affinity is an element you have an affinity to… in short. In your joining application, you will choose one of the five basic elemental affinities if you are in a clan or two of the five basic elemental affinities if you are not in a clan. Everyone will also gain an extra elemental affinity of their chose at Jounin Rank with the exception of some clans that may use combined elemental affinities (Haku for example). Those are explained in the custom clan section.
- Where do you get your info anyways? You’re making it up, right?
- Nah, we get it all from Leafninja, probably the best Naruto site out there.
- I’d like to make my character Japanese… but I don’t know what to name him!
- How big can I make my siggies?
- No bigger than 300 x 500.
